Long ago, in a time of desperate struggle, the noble races of the world clashed with the nightmarish monstrosities of the dark. Soon the malevolent forces of the world were locked away in fortress-prisons, and for a time, peace settled over the land.

But it was not meant to last.

Seizing the opportunity to vanquish their old enemies, the Elves turned on their Dwarven allies, furiously wielding time-lost magics in a relentless campaign to wipe out the Dwarven armies once and for all.

In the end, only one Dwarf remained... Grimbeard, the engineer responsible for shaping the Dwarven weapons of war and erecting the mighty fortress prisons.

Now, with his heart blackened by betrayal and his soul thirsty for revenge, Grimbeard has freed the legions of Ogres, Giants and myriad unspeakable terrors he helped lock away; an army of unrepentant fugitives to march against the overconfident, contemptuous Elves.
